Where your Fullerton case is filed

The North Justice Center stands at 1275 N. Berkeley Ave, inside the city. Unlimited civil injury filings still go to the Central Justice Center in Santa Ana. We have not confirmed with the court which case types the North Justice Center currently hears.

The court draws the line by amount: a dispute of "$35,000 or less" is limited civil, and anything above that, or any claim not involving money, is unlimited civil.

Court assignments change. Verified September 4, 2026 against the court's locations page, its Central Justice Center page and its civil division page. A statute of limitations is the outside date for filing suit. Miss it and the claim ends.

Code of Civil Procedure section 335.1 gives two years for injury to or the death of a person. Government Code section 911.2 puts a public entity claim on six months and section 945.6 gives six months to sue after a rejection. The rest are in our California personal injury deadlines table.

What makes a Fullerton case different

Two colleges and a bar district on the same boulevard. California State University Fullerton sits at Nutwood Avenue and Yorba Linda Boulevard, immediately beside the 57, and Fullerton College sits downtown. Harbor Boulevard runs through the middle of the downtown bar district. Students crossing wide arterials on foot and on bicycles, at night, is the local pattern, and the pedestrian ranking reflects it.

Older pedestrians. The city ranks 13 of 62 for pedestrians 65 and older, with nine victims in 2023. Those cases turn on crossing time, sight lines and whether a driver yielded, and they are the cases where an insurer reaches fastest for a comparative fault argument about where the person was walking.

Two freeways on the edges, none through the middle. The 91 crosses the south of the city and the 57 crosses the east. That geography pushes local traffic onto Harbor, Euclid, Commonwealth, Chapman and Orangethorpe, which is why a Fullerton crash is more often a city police report than a CHP report.

One hospital, and it is not a trauma center. Providence St. Jude Medical Center treats a great deal in this city, and the most serious injuries still leave for Orange.

How dangerous are Fullerton's streets?

The California Office of Traffic Safety ranks cities against others of similar size, using SWITRS crash reports, Department of Finance population estimates and Caltrans daily vehicle miles traveled. Fullerton sits in population group B, a group of 62 cities, with a 2023 population of 141,909. Rank 1 is the worst in the group.

That divergence is the point of this table, and it is the reason a pedestrian case here should not be worked like a rear end collision.

One caveat travels with these numbers. OTS states that where a crash report is taken by the CHP on a road with shared jurisdiction, it does not count against the city. The 91 and the 57 both touch Fullerton, so the table understates what happens inside the city limits.

Hurt on the 57 near Cal State?

Caltrans publishes two counts at each location, one behind it and one ahead. The 57 at Chapman Avenue is the heaviest count anywhere near this city, and it sits two interchanges from a university campus.

Where a serious Fullerton injury is treated

Providence St. Jude Medical Center at 101 E Valencia Mesa Dr is the hospital in Fullerton, with 320 licensed beds, and it is not a designated trauma center. Bed counts come from the state's licensed healthcare facility file, and the designation list is the California EMS Authority list updated October 22, 2025.

Trauma patients go to UCI Health Orange, a Level I adult and Level II pediatric trauma center about eight miles south, or to Rady Children's Hospital Orange County for a child. Orange County has only four designated trauma centers for 3.17 million people, and the nearest one to Fullerton is that eight mile drive.

Two hospitals in two cities means two billing departments, and each can assert a lien, a right to be repaid out of your settlement before you see any of it. We request the St. Jude chart and the trauma activation record together, early, because a lien nobody negotiated is money taken off the end of the case.

Who has your Fullerton crash report

The CHP Santa Ana Area states it patrols over 225 miles of freeway including I-5, I-405, SR 55, SR 22 and SR 91. The Westminster Area covers I-5, I-405, I-605, SR 22 and SR 91 near Disneyland and Knott's Berry Farm. A crash on Commonwealth or Chapman is a Fullerton Police report.

What we have not verified about Fullerton

The North Justice Center question is open. The court lists the building as a location in Fullerton. We have not confirmed which civil matters are assigned there, so we tell you the one thing that is verified: unlimited civil injury filings go to Santa Ana.

The rankings have limits too. A rank describes a rate across a whole city over a whole year, not evidence about the corner where you were hit. We publish the numbers because they are checkable, sourced and public.

What to do next in Fullerton

Your case goes to the Central Justice Center at 700 Civic Center Drive West in Santa Ana, on a two year clock, or six months if the City of Fullerton or the county is on the other side. It does not go to the building on North Berkeley Avenue. Before that, it goes to a doctor, and to whoever still has video of the crossing.
