Hurt in Anaheim? We take the calls from the insurer while you heal. Serious injuries leave the city, because none of Anaheim's five hospitals is a trauma center, so we collect your records from wherever you were treated. No fee unless we recover.

After an Anaheim injury

We represent people hurt in Anaheim and the families of people killed here. A claim here turns on venue, deadlines, the state's crash data for this city, the freeway geography around the resort and the stadium, the hospitals and the report. If your crash happened next door, read Garden Grove or Fullerton.

Anaheim is the largest city in Orange County and it has no civil courthouse of its own. Unlimited civil injury filings go to the Central Justice Center in Santa Ana. The North Justice Center at 1275 N. Berkeley Ave in Fullerton is closer, and it is not where an unlimited civil injury case is filed. The court draws the line by amount: a dispute of "$35,000 or less" is limited civil, and above that is unlimited civil.

Code of Civil Procedure section 335.1 gives two years for injury to or the death of a person. Government Code section 911.2 puts a public entity claim on six months and section 945.6 gives six months to sue after a rejection. The rest are in our California personal injury deadlines table.

Local factors in Anaheim cases

Alcohol. Anaheim ranked 4 of 15 among California's largest cities for alcohol involved crashes in 2023, with 225 people killed or injured, and 2 of 15 for crashes involving a drinking driver under 21. Rank 1 is the worst. In a case with a drinking driver, the criminal file and the civil file move on different clocks, and the criminal case is often the reason a driver's insurer goes quiet.

Visitors rather than commuters. Harbor Boulevard and Katella Avenue are the Disneyland Resort exits off the I-5, and the Katella and State College area holds Angel Stadium and the Honda Center. That produces drivers who do not know the streets, event surges at fixed hours, hotel shuttles, and a heavy rideshare load. Witnesses in these cases are often from out of town and gone by the next morning, so we gather the independent witness list in the first week.

No trauma center. Five hospitals sit inside the city and none of them is a designated trauma center, so the most seriously injured people are taken out of Anaheim entirely. The medical narrative then comes from two institutions rather than the one you were nearest.

One courthouse. Every Orange County injury case converges on Santa Ana, so the venue question that takes weeks in Los Angeles County is settled at once here.

Anaheim crash data

The California Office of Traffic Safety ranks cities against others of similar size, using SWITRS crash reports, Department of Finance population estimates and Caltrans daily vehicle miles traveled. Anaheim sits in population group A, the state's 15 largest cities, with a 2023 population of 342,054 and 3,255,930 daily vehicle miles. Rank 1 is the worst in the group.

One caveat travels with these numbers. OTS states that where a crash report is taken by the CHP on a road with shared jurisdiction, it does not count against the city. The I-5 and the SR 91 both cross Anaheim, so the table understates what happens inside the city limits.

Crashes on the 5 near Disneyland

The I-5 and the SR 91 cross Anaheim and the SR 57 meets the 91 inside it. Caltrans publishes two counts at each location, one behind it and one ahead.

Source: Caltrans Traffic Census annual average daily traffic. Harbor and Katella are the two counts that matter most here, because they are the resort ramps. An Anaheim car accident at one of those interchanges usually involves an unfamiliar driver, a rental or a shuttle, and a witness pool that leaves the county within 48 hours.

Beds and addresses come from the state's licensed healthcare facility file. None of the five appears on the California EMS Authority trauma center list updated October 22, 2025. Trauma patients go to UCI Health Orange, a Level I adult trauma center about four miles southeast, or to Orange County Global Medical Center in Santa Ana.

That routing matters to the claim. Where you were taken decides who holds the imaging and who files a lien, a hospital's or insurer's right to be repaid out of your settlement before you see any of it. In a serious Anaheim case the records usually come from two places: the local hospital that stabilized you and the trauma center that treated you.

The CHP Westminster Area describes itself as responsible for patrolling the freeways close to Disneyland and Knott's Berry Farm, including I-5, I-405, I-605, SR 22 and SR 91. The Santa Ana Area patrols over 225 miles of freeway across the same routes. A crash on Katella or Harbor is an Anaheim Police report, not a CHP report.

After you call

We get you treated first, and in a visitor city that often means finding care for someone who lives three states away. Nothing about a claim improves while an injury goes unexamined, and the gap between the crash and the first visit is the first thing an adjuster looks for.

Then we take the calls from the insurance company, including the recorded statement, a taped interview the other driver's insurer will ask for and is under no obligation to conduct fairly. The first offer is a negotiating position, not a valuation. We answer it with a demand: records, bills, wage loss and future care in one package. The carrier's policy limits, the most its policy will pay, set the room to negotiate in, and in a drinking driver case those limits often decide the outcome.

Fault turns on negligence, the failure to use the care a reasonable person would use, divided by percentage under pure comparative fault. Being partly at fault reduces what you recover; it does not end the claim. Our headquarters are in Tarzana, and you do not have to make the drive.

Anaheim cases we handle

For everything else the Los Angeles practice pages carry the law and we handle the matter here: Los Angeles brain injury attorney, Los Angeles catastrophic injury lawyer, Los Angeles premises liability lawyer and Los Angeles slip and fall accident lawyer. If your crash involved a rideshare, our post on Uber and Lyft insurance coverage periods explains which policy applies.

Limits of the crash data

A crash at the resort is not a claim against the resort. Liability follows the driver, the employer or the property owner whose conduct caused it, and each of those is proved differently. A crash involving a city vehicle or a road defect is a different case again, on a six month claim clock rather than two years.

The rankings have limits. A rank describes a rate across a whole city over a whole year, not evidence about your intersection. We publish them because they are checkable, sourced and public.

Next steps

Your case goes to the Central Justice Center at 700 Civic Center Drive West in Santa Ana, on a two year clock, or six months if the City of Anaheim or the county is on the other side. Before that, it goes to a doctor, and into a file with the report, the imaging and the names of witnesses before they leave the state.

Questions about Anaheim cases

Where will my Anaheim injury case be filed?
At the Central Justice Center, 700 Civic Center Drive West, Santa Ana 92701. Anaheim has no civil courthouse, and Orange County Superior Court hears unlimited civil, limited civil and small claims cases in that building. The North Justice Center in Fullerton is closer but is not where an unlimited civil injury case is filed.
How long do I have to file a claim after a crash in Anaheim?
Two years from the date of injury against a private driver or business, under Code of Civil Procedure section 335.1. If the City of Anaheim, the county or a transit agency is involved, you have six months to present a written claim under Government Code section 911.2, then six months after a written rejection to sue under section 945.6.
Who investigates a crash on the 5 or the 91 in Anaheim?
The California Highway Patrol. The Westminster Area at 13200 Goldenwest Street, Westminster, states it patrols the freeways close to Disneyland and Knott's Berry Farm, and the Santa Ana Area at 2031 E. Santa Clara Ave. patrols the same routes across more than 225 miles. A crash on Katella or Harbor is an Anaheim Police report.
Which hospital will I be taken to?
For a serious injury, not one in Anaheim. The city has five licensed hospitals and no designated trauma center. Trauma patients go to UCI Health Orange, a Level I adult trauma center about four miles southeast, or to Orange County Global Medical Center in Santa Ana. Less severe injuries are treated locally.
Is drunk driving a bigger problem in Anaheim than elsewhere?
By the state's measure, yes. In the Office of Traffic Safety 2023 rankings, Anaheim ranks 4 of 15 among California's largest cities for alcohol involved crashes, with 225 people killed or injured, and 2 of 15 for crashes involving a drinking driver under 21. Rank 1 is the worst in the group.
What if the driver who hit me was in an Uber or Lyft?
The coverage depends on what the driver was doing at that moment. A rideshare company's commercial policy applies when a driver is carrying a passenger or heading to a pickup, and the driver's own policy applies when the app is off. Our page on Anaheim Uber and rideshare accidents covers how that is proved.
What if the other driver has no insurance?
Your own uninsured or underinsured motorist coverage becomes the source of payment, and it has its own deadline that runs from the date of the crash rather than from a denial. Check your declarations page for UM and UIM limits. We ask for that page on the first call for this reason.
Do I have to come to your office?
No. Our headquarters are in Tarzana, and you do not have to make the drive. We sign clients by phone and video, meet at the hospital or at home when that is easier, and appear at the courthouse in Santa Ana when the case requires it.
