Hurt in Beverly Hills? What happens now

We represent people hurt in Beverly Hills and the families of people killed there. A claim here turns on venue, deadlines, the state's crash record for the city, where you are treated and who writes the report. If your crash happened over the hill, read our Woodland Hills personal injury lawyer page.

Almost every claim here runs on negligence, the rule that a person who fails to use ordinary care answers for the injury that failure causes. Civil Code section 1714(a) states the rule and adds the exception the other insurer will rely on, for injury the hurt person brought on themselves.

Where a Beverly Hills case is filed

Los Angeles Superior Court Local Rule 2.3(a)(1)(A) governs venue. Every unlimited civil action for bodily injury, wrongful death or damage to personal property "must be filed in the judicial district where the incident arose." The courthouse follows the crash, not your address, so a Beverly Hills collision stays in the West District wherever you live.

A statute of limitations is the deadline to file suit. Missing it ends the case on the calendar rather than on the merits. Section 335.1 gives two years for injury or death caused by another's wrongful act or neglect. A government claim is different: it is a written claim you must present to the agency before you may sue it, and Government Code section 911.2(a) gives six months. The rest are in our table of California injury deadlines.

What makes a Beverly Hills case different

A city of 32,000 residents carrying 506,210 daily vehicle miles

The Office of Traffic Safety used a resident population of 31,984 for Beverly Hills in 2023 and a Caltrans estimate of 506,210 daily vehicle miles. A small residential base absorbs a large working and visiting load, and the ranking adjusts for both. Beverly Hills still finishes first in its group.

Every serious injury leaves the city by ambulance

There is no emergency department in Beverly Hills. That changes the medical side of a case: the run sheet, the trauma admission, the imaging and the first treating doctors are all created in Los Angeles or Santa Monica.

The proof comes from surface streets, not freeways

No freeway crosses Beverly Hills, so these are intersection, turning and pedestrian cases on wide arterials. The proof is business and residential camera footage, signal timing and scene physics rather than a highway patrol reconstruction. Footage is overwritten in days, so our preservation letters go out first.

How dangerous are Beverly Hills streets?

The Office of Traffic Safety ranks each city against others in its population group using crash counts, Department of Finance population estimates and Caltrans daily vehicle miles. Rank 1 is the worst rate in the group. Beverly Hills sits in Group D, 93 cities in 2023.

Pedestrians461 of 93
Pedestrians 65 and older111 of 93
Motorcycles381 of 93
Alcohol involved442 of 93
Bicyclists197 of 93

The Office of Traffic Safety states one caveat itself. In its words, "if a crash report is taken by the CHP on a road with shared jurisdiction, it does not count against the city." Crashes the Highway Patrol works on the 405 and the 10 sit outside these numbers. The 611 people killed or injured in 2023 were hurt on the city's own streets.

The pedestrian and motorcycle lines matter most: 46 pedestrians and 38 motorcyclists hurt or killed in one year in a city of about 32,000 residents, 11 of those pedestrians 65 or older. If you were hit while walking, read our Beverly Hills pedestrian accident lawyer page. Riders should start with the motorcycle accident page.

Where you are treated after your crash

A search of the California licensed and certified healthcare facility file for Beverly Hills returns roughly sixty facilities. Every one is a surgical or ambulatory surgery center with zero licensed beds, such as 90210 Surgery Medical Center at 9735 Wilshire Boulevard and La Peer Surgery Center at 8920 Wilshire Boulevard. The city has no emergency department, no trauma center and no acute care beds.

Paramedics therefore leave the city. Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, 8700 Beverly Boulevard, is a Level I adult and pediatric trauma center with 919 licensed beds, immediately east of the city line. Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, 757 Westwood Plaza, is Level I adult with 446 beds. Saint John's Health Center, 2121 Santa Monica Boulevard, has 266 beds and no trauma designation. Levels come from the California EMS Authority list updated October 22, 2025, and beds from the state facility file.

For the claim, the consequence is a records problem. Your bills and treating doctors sit in a different city from the crash, and a hospital that treats you without payment asserts a lien, a right to be paid out of your settlement first. We gather the records early and negotiate the liens at the end, because the amount you keep depends on what leaves the settlement first.

Where Beverly Hills crashes happen

Two facts set the crash pattern: no freeway inside the city, and two of the busiest freeways in the country along its edges. Caltrans' current published annual average daily traffic counts show I-405 at Wilshire carrying 308,000 vehicles a day falling to 284,000, and I-10 at Robertson carrying 255,000 falling to 252,000, both from the Caltrans traffic census dataset.

Inside the city line the arterials carry the load. Wilshire, Santa Monica Boulevard with its wide median, Olympic, Sunset, Doheny and Canon carry what the freeways deliver, and the Rodeo Drive retail grid concentrates people on foot into a few blocks. North of Sunset, Coldwater Canyon Drive and Benedict Canyon Drive climb toward the Valley on two lane roads with curves and no shoulder.

The CHP West Los Angeles Area names Beverly Hills among the communities it serves. It describes its patrol area as containing the 405 and the 10, "the busiest and most congested freeways in the country." If you were hurt on the freeway, the report is a CHP report from Culver City. Asking the wrong agency costs weeks.

Partly at fault? You can still recover

Being partly at fault does not end a California claim. Under comparative fault, a jury assigns each party a percentage and your recovery is reduced by yours, with no cut off. California has no rule that ends a claim because you stepped outside the crosswalk, whatever an adjuster tells you.

Two exceptions come up often. Policy limits, the most an insurer will pay under a policy, are often smaller than the medical bills. The case then becomes a search for other coverage: the driver's employer, a commercial policy, a rideshare period, your own underinsured motorist coverage. If the road, the signal or the sidewalk is part of what happened, the claim runs against a public entity on the six month clock, as our injured on government property page explains.

What to do next in Beverly Hills

  1. 1
    Treatment first

We get you in front of the right doctors, on a lien if you have no coverage, and keep the care continuous. A gap in treatment is the first thing an adjuster argues.

  2. 2
    The report and the footage

We pull the Beverly Hills police or CHP report and send preservation letters to businesses whose cameras face the intersection before the video is overwritten.

  3. 3
    The demand, then filing

A demand is the written package of records, bills, wage loss and liability proof that starts the negotiation. If the number comes back wrong, we file in Santa Monica or Beverly Hills inside the two year deadline.

Our headquarters are in Tarzana, and you do not have to come to it. Most of a case runs by phone, text and email, and we come to you if you are still in the hospital. We take the calls from the other insurer, including the recorded statement request.

Prior results do not guarantee a similar outcome. Every case depends on its own facts, injuries, and insurance coverage. Amounts shown are gross recoveries before attorney's fees, costs, and medical liens.

Questions about Beverly Hills cases

Where will my Beverly Hills injury case be filed?
In the West District. The court's filing locator returns the Santa Monica Courthouse, 1725 Main Street, or the Beverly Hills Courthouse, 9355 Burton Way, for an unlimited civil case arising in Beverly Hills 90210. Local Rule 2.3(a)(1)(A) requires an injury suit to be filed in the judicial district where the incident arose, so the courthouse follows the crash rather than your home address.
How long do I have to file a claim after a crash in Beverly Hills?
Two years from the date of the injury under Code of Civil Procedure section 335.1, and two years from the date of death for a wrongful death claim. If a public agency is involved, such as a city vehicle, a bus or a defective road, Government Code section 911.2 gives you six months to present a written claim to that agency before you may sue it.
Which hospital will I be taken to after a Beverly Hills crash?
Not one in Beverly Hills. The city has no general acute care hospital and no emergency department; every licensed facility inside it is a surgical or ambulatory center with zero beds. Paramedics take seriously injured patients to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center on Beverly Boulevard or Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center in Westwood, both Level I trauma centers.
Who investigates a crash on the 405 or the 10 near Beverly Hills?
The California Highway Patrol, West Los Angeles Area, at 6300 Bristol Parkway in Culver City. Its patrol area covers the 405 and the 10 and includes Beverly Hills among the communities it serves. A freeway crash produces a CHP report, not a Beverly Hills police report, so request it from the CHP office rather than from the city.
Is Beverly Hills dangerous for people on foot?
By the state's measure, yes. The California Office of Traffic Safety ranked Beverly Hills 1 of 93 comparably sized cities for pedestrian crashes in 2023, with 46 pedestrians killed or injured, and 1 of 93 for pedestrians aged 65 and older, with 11 victims. Rank 1 is the worst rate in the group, adjusted for population and vehicle miles traveled.
What if I was partly at fault for the crash?
You can still recover. California uses comparative fault: a jury assigns each party a percentage of responsibility and your award is reduced by your share, with no cut off point. Being 30 percent at fault reduces a recovery by 30 percent rather than ending it. Insurers press that percentage, so we gather the fault evidence before anyone gives a statement.
Do I have to come to your office?
No. Our headquarters are in Tarzana, and you do not have to come to it. If you are in the hospital or cannot drive, we come to you. Signing up and sending documents does not require a trip anywhere.
What does it cost to hire you for a Beverly Hills case?
Nothing up front. We work on a contingency fee, which means our fee comes out of the recovery and there is no fee unless we recover. Case costs, such as records fees and filing fees, are disclosed in writing before we start. If there is no recovery, you are not billed for our time.
