What happens now after a Corona injury
We represent people hurt in Corona and the families of people killed here. A claim here turns on where the case is filed and by when, what the state's crash data says about this city, where you are treated, who writes the report, and how we work a file from Los Angeles. If your crash was east of the city, read our Riverside personal injury lawyer page, and if it was west through the canyon, our Anaheim page.
Negligence is the failure to use ordinary care, stated in Civil Code section 1714. Comparative fault reduces a recovery by the injured person's own share of responsibility rather than ending it, under Li v. Yellow Cab Co. A limited civil case stays under the limited civil threshold; anything above it is unlimited civil, and in this county that decides the building.
Where your Corona case is filed
Riverside County Superior Court sets filing locations by administrative order of the presiding judge under Local Rule 3115. The order in force, revised July 8, 2026 and effective August 1, 2026, sends all unlimited civil cases in the western county to the Riverside Historic Courthouse and keeps limited civil from the Corona zip codes at the Corona Courthouse. The same order sends Corona civil restraining orders under Code of Civil Procedure sections 527.6, 527.7 and 527.8 to the Corona Courthouse.

What makes a Corona case different
The Santa Ana Canyon runs through this city. State Route 91 narrows into the canyon west of Serfas Club Drive. Caltrans' current published annual average daily traffic puts it at 250,000 to 251,000 vehicles a day there, 243,000 to 250,000 at Lincoln Avenue and 242,000 to 250,000 at West Grand Boulevard. Green River Road runs alongside it. That is the funnel between Riverside and Orange counties, and it is where the serious Corona freeway cases happen.
The I-15 crosses the 91 here, carrying freight. Caltrans shows 184,000 to 205,000 vehicles a day at Magnolia Avenue and 174,000 to 184,000 at Ontario Avenue, on the route trucks use between the Inland Empire warehouses and San Diego. Commercial vehicle liability is a normal feature of a Corona freeway case, which brings driver logs, maintenance files and a carrier's insurer into it.
Good numbers, with one exception. Corona ranks 50 of 62 for total crashes, 51 of 62 for alcohol and 53 of 62 composite, where rank 1 is the worst, so this is a comparatively safe city by rate. The exception is children on foot: rank 10 of 62 in 2023, with 7 child pedestrian victims.
How dangerous are Corona's roads?
The California Office of Traffic Safety ranks each city against others of similar size, using crash data, state population estimates and daily vehicle miles traveled. Corona sits in group B, 62 cities, with a 2023 population of 159,667 and 1,186,180 daily vehicle miles traveled. Rank 1 is the worst in the group, so most of the table below is good news.
| Crash category | Killed and injured, 2023 | Rank |
|---|---|---|
| Total fatal and injury | 493 | 50 of 62 |
| Alcohol involved | 45 | 51 of 62 |
| Drinking driver under 21 | 3 | 46 of 62 |
| Drinking driver 21 to 34 | 18 | 52 of 62 |
| Motorcycles | 28 | 33 of 62 |
| Pedestrians | 29 | 49 of 62 |
| Pedestrians under 15 | 7 | 10 of 62 |
| Pedestrians 65 and older | 3 | 52 of 62 |
| Bicyclists | 20 | 50 of 62 |
| Bicyclists under 15 | 3 | 40 of 62 |
| Composite | 225 | 53 of 62 |
One caveat belongs with those totals, and here it matters more than usual. The rankings count crashes inside incorporated cities, including state highways within city limits that share jurisdiction with the California Highway Patrol. The agency states that "if a crash report is taken by the CHP on a road with shared jurisdiction, it does not count against the city." A quarter of a million vehicles a day cross Corona on the 91, and most of what happens to them is not in this table.
Where a Corona ambulance takes you
Corona Regional Medical Center, 800 South Main Street, has 160 licensed beds in the state's facility file and is the hospital in the city. It is not on the California EMS Authority designated trauma center list updated October 22, 2025. The nearest listed centers are HCA Riverside Community Hospital, 4445 Magnolia Avenue in Riverside, about 14 miles east, and Riverside University Health System Medical Center in Moreno Valley, about 30 miles east. UCI Health Orange, west through the canyon, is roughly comparable in distance, which makes transport direction a live question here.
For the claim, that means the file may cross a county line before you have spoken to an adjuster. Records sit with whichever hospital received you, the ambulance or air transport bills separately, and a hospital or health plan may assert a lien, a legal claim on your settlement for the cost of care. We gather the whole record and handle the lienholders at the end. Our guide to life care plans and future medical costs covers the severe files.
Crashed on the 91 through the canyon?
Two freeways cross in the middle of the city, and they carry different traffic. The 91 is a commute road running east and west at 228,000 to 251,000 vehicles a day through Corona. The I-15 runs north and south at 166,000 to 205,000, with a large share of the truck movement between the Inland Empire and San Diego. Our guide to freeway accidents covers what those speeds do to the evidence, and our Los Angeles truck accident lawyer page covers the carriers.
The canyon section west of Serfas Club Drive is the piece that shapes the worst cases. The freeway narrows, the express lanes run through the middle, and traffic that has been moving at speed meets traffic that has stopped. A rear end chain on that stretch is not a suburban intersection crash, which is why our post on who is at fault in a rear end accident matters here.
Who has your Corona crash report
| Where the crash happened | Agency | Office |
|---|---|---|
| City streets | Corona Police Department | Request from the responding department |
| SR 91, I-15 | CHP, Riverside Area | 8118 Lincoln Ave., Riverside 92504 |
The CHP Riverside Area office patrols Interstate 15, Interstate 215, State Route 60, State Route 71, State Route 74 and State Route 91 across most of western Riverside County. A crash on the 91 through the canyon is therefore a CHP file held in Riverside, and a crash on Main Street or Ontario Avenue is a Corona Police Department file. The report drives the adjuster's first decision on liability, so the request goes to the right agency the first time.
How we handle a Corona case
Our headquarters are in Tarzana, and you do not have to come to it. Most of a case runs by phone, text and email, and we travel for the depositions, mediations and hearings.
- 1Treatment first
We get you to the right doctors, on a lien if you have no coverage, and keep the care continuous. A gap in treatment is the first thing an adjuster argues.
- 2The canyon and the carrier
On the 91 west of Serfas Club Drive we get the CHP file and the scene photographs, and where a truck is involved we demand in writing that the driver logs and maintenance records be preserved.
- 3The demand, then filing
A demand is the written package of records, bills, wage loss and liability proof that starts the negotiation. If the number comes back wrong, we file in Corona or at 4050 Main Street in Riverside, inside the two year deadline.
The deeper law on each case type sits on our practice pages: Los Angeles car accident lawyer, Los Angeles truck accident lawyer, Los Angeles pedestrian accident lawyer, Los Angeles motorcycle accident lawyer and Los Angeles wrongful death lawyer.

Prior results do not guarantee a similar outcome. Every case depends on its own facts, injuries, and insurance coverage. Amounts shown are gross recoveries before attorney's fees, costs, and medical liens.
All case resultsWhen a Corona case is different
- The case is worth more than the limited civil threshold. Then it is not filed in Corona. It goes to the Historic Courthouse on Main Street in Riverside, 14 miles east.
- The crash was on the 91 in the canyon. Then it is a CHP file, the report is held in Riverside, and it does not appear in the city's Office of Traffic Safety numbers at all.
- A public entity is involved. A city or county vehicle, or a road defect, puts you on the six month clock in Government Code section 911.2. See our guide to being injured on government property.
- The at fault driver carries the state minimum. One surgery passes it, and your own coverage becomes the case. See the California minimum limits and uninsured motorist claims.
Your next step after a Corona crash
The answer turns on the size of the claim. A limited civil case stays at 505 South Buena Vista, a serious injury case is filed at 4050 Main Street in Riverside, and either way you have two years, or six months if a public entity is in it. Treatment starts at Corona Regional and moves east for trauma, and the report comes from Corona Police or the CHP in Riverside. We also serve Riverside, Moreno Valley and Murrieta, and every city is on our locations page.
No fee unless we recover. Tell us what happened and we will tell you what the file needs.
